Irish Heritage Plants – Plandaí Oidhreachta was a joint project between the Irish Garden Plant Society and The Irish Society of Botanical Artists which was supported by the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, and lead to the publication of a book and an exhibition of the work of the artists. The project received generous sponsorship from An Bord Bia and from the County Wexford Garden and Flower Club for which we are most grateful.

A number of Irish garden plants, with a strong leaning on plants introduced since 2000, were selected and illustrated by the artists. The work of the artists is simply astonishingly beautiful and has lead to a book which is a work of art in itself.

The text was written by a number of contributors: Charles Nelson on Irises, Paddy Tobin on Irish snowdrops, Chris McAleer and Sydney Harrod on Irish Sweet Peas, Alick Branigan on Irish dahlias, Declan Doogue on our natural habitats, Brian Duncan on Irish daffodils, Brendan Sayers and Joe Kennedy on Irishpolyanthus and primroses and Seamus O’Brien on the latest woody plants available in Ireland today.

The book may be ordered online from The Irish Society of Botanical Artists and will be on sale at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin.
