Published by The Irish Garden Plant Society
While Dr Charles Nelson, one of the society’s founding members, worked in the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin (1976 – 1995) he recorded particulars of every garden plant that was raised in Ireland or which, by various means, was associated with Irish gardeners or gardens. This unique encyclopaedia is the culmination of that work. A Heritage of Beauty records around 3,500 cultivars beginning with the Irish Yew and including such familiar and more recent plants such as Viola ‘Molly Sanderson’ and Omphalodes ‘Starry Eyes’, it contains the names of about 1000 daffodils and more than 800 roses.
