On Wednesday evening, around 100 members and guests attended Malone House, Belfast, and enjoyed an inspiring lecture ‘How to get the most from the Smaller Garden’ by artist T.J. Maher from Patthana Garden, Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow. T.J.’s photos of his 1/3 acre garden were wonderful, with his fabulous plant selections and colour combinations.

There was then a presentation to Roz and Victor Henry and to myself (Barbara Kelso) as we had served 10 years in the Northern Regional Committee and had now stepped down.  Roz and Victor had organised the garden visits and I had been responsible for the lectures. Our lovely gifts we received included a pot of very special Irish snowdrops, Galanthus ‘Blaris’.

A bumper raffle then followed, with numerous prizes of plants, several of which were kindly donated by T.J., spring bulbs, books and other gifts. T.J. and his partner Simon, also brought a selection of interesting plants for sale. Everyone then enjoyed tea/coffee and homemade shortbread in the reception area of Malone House, beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Many thanks to Barbara Kelso for photographs and text.
