Saturday June 15th with morning & afternoon visits
11.00am -13.30pm: Loughcrew Gardens Oldcastle Co. Meath, A82EV62
14.00pm – 16.30pm (with lunch at 14.30pm approx): The Poppy Garden, Milltown, Oldcastle, Co. Meath, A82AP58
Loughcrew Gardens is a Historic landscape garden and sculpture park. Home of Naper family since 17th century. The garden was restored under the ‘Great Gardens of Ireland’ scheme. Picturesque gardens and beautiful woodland with St. Oliver Plunkett’s church means plenty to see and explore! All paths throughout the garden are even and refreshments are available at your own expense.
Then its off to The Poppy Garden approximately 20 minutes away!
The Poppy garden (see top photo) is just an acre with a maze of paths through different beds with a huge array of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees, some creatively pruned. There is beautiful scenery looking up to the Loughcrew Hills. Its design is the result of a stay at home mammy’s garden obsession spanning over 15 years. With a unique style that brings together exuberant and colourful planting with upcycling.
Owner Ealma Purcell says she loves to salvage things and repurpose them throughout the garden as unusual planters or decoration. There will be plenty of inspiration and ideas for everyone to take home, plus lovely plants and pots available for sale too!
There are grass paths throughout, and some cobbled paths which may be a little uneven in places. Definitely wear waterproof footwear if it is wet! It’s pretty level throughout and accessible to all.
The cost for members for the two garden visits and lunch is €30 and for members guests is €32. Booking will be available via Eventbrite from early May.
